Robert E.
Perkins, Jr.
Dec 26, 1927 — Jan 4, 2020
Robert Easton Perkins, Jr. - charmer, adventurer, wit - passed away on January 4, 2020 at age 92. His creative energy and esoteric tastes were apparent in his many pastimes, furniture-making, playing boogie-woogie on the piano, and cooking exotic dishes (often from the fish and game he brought home). Born in New York City, December 26, 1927, to Dorothy Young and Robert Perkins, Bob grew up in and around Allenhurst, NJ. After graduating Riverside Military Academy, GA, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served as a frogman with an Underwater Demolition Team stationed in the Philippines. Bob earned a B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1950 and went on to become an advertising executive at Young Rubicam, in New York and Los Angeles. In the 1970's Bob established an alligator farm near Lake Charles, LA, under the auspices of the Department of Agriculture, to produce a commercial supply of skins. In the 1990's he realized a lifelong dream: sailing his sloop, the Adagio, throughout the Caribbean. Bob eventually returned to Ocean Grove, NJ, where four generations of his family gathered, and could be found fishing from his Key West in the waters off the Jersey shore until 89. Lovingly known to his family as Cap'n Bob, he is survived by his daughter, Barbara, two sons, James and Peter, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by son, Michael.
