Patrick Matthews of Ocean Grove died Saturday, October 21, 2017. Born in County Louth, Ireland, and educated at the Christian Brothers School there, Patrick learned the typesetting trade in Ireland. He worked in England for a few years before immigrating to the United States in 1958. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving from 1959 to 1961 and in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1961 to 1965. Patrick later went on to become one of the founders and owners of Typographic Innovations Inc. (TGI) in New York City, where he led the company until retiring in 1992. In addition to all his hard work as a businessman and father, Patrick was also known as a runner, a golfer, a reader, and a sailor. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan Matthews, by hischildren Tim Matthews of Burlingame, California; Cara Matthews of Norwalk, Connecticut; and Craig Matthews of Haskell, New Jersey; and his sisters Maureen Gleeson of Dublin, Ireland, and Nuala Lynch of Bettystown, County Meath, Ireland. Patrick was predeceased by his parents, James and Margaret Connolly Mathews, and by his siblings Rita Cooney, James Mathews, Kathleen Shortall, and Eileen Finegan. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avene, Ocean Grove. A celebration of Patrick's life will be hed on Friday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home.
