Mildred Booker, 99, of Tinton Falls, NJ went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 8, 2024. She departed this world while happily reminiscing about her family to whom she was so devoted.Mildred, who was known as Millie among her friends and family, was the loving wife of Reverend George M. Booker for 56 years. She grew up in Jersey City, NJ and spent her summers in Ocean Grove, NJ, a very special place that was near and dear to her heart. She was a God-honoring, loyal, gracious and steadfast woman of integrity who loved people. Millie had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh; she was adept at making people feel comfortable and at ease in her presence.Millie and George attended Claremont Presbyterian Church together since third grade and were close friends throughout their childhood. When George entered the US Army to serve his country during World War II, they frequently wrote to one another while he was abroad. His articulate, thoughtful, and loving letters to her during that time that led her to fall in love with him. Upon his return to the US, he proposed and they married shortly thereafter.Millie supported George throughout his career in business and subsequently when he felt the Lord's calling to enter the church ministry. While George worked and attended seminary during the day, Millie worked at a bank at night to make ends meet. Together, they served at United Presbyterian Church in Chester, NJ, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield, NJ as well as Emmanuel Church in Newark, NJ. George served as managing editor for the Presbyterian Lay Committee and was an Associate Trustee of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association.Throughout her life, Millie was dedicated to service. She was an active member of The Woman's Club of Matawan as well the Ocean Grove Ladies Auxiliary. Additionally, she hosted a weekly small group of widows at her home, forging lifelong relationships.
