GailDorothyShafferleft this earth on April 23, 2020,twoweeks short of her 84th birthday. Gailgrew up in Berkeley Heights and graduated Hood College, Frederick, Md., and went on to teach 42 years at Governor Livingston Regional High School.While Gail was short in stature, she was long on energy.Along-time resident,shewas active in Berkeley Heights: volunteering with the Berkeley Heights Historical Society, volunteering with the Berkeley Heights rescue squad,andvolunteer at Covenant House in NYC.Gail was the cheerleading coach for many years,as well asthe yearbook advisor for decadesand all round student advocate.The pinnacle of her career was being named New Jersey's Teacher of the Year in 1993.Gail purchased her second home in Ocean Grove in 1965 and spent many happy daystherewith family and friends. Upon her retirement in 1998, Gailpermanentlymovedto her home in Ocean Grove and settled intoherlife including Ocean Grove Historical President,managingthe Historical House tourand all things Ocean Grove.Gail's loveforOcean Grove was only matched by her love of family and friends.

Gail is predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Mildred (neeBurgmiller) Shaffer.While Gail was never marriedwith nochildren of her own, she was a second mom to many and cared about their life goalsand adventures. Gail's love of entertaining was renown. Manyfriends and familyremember her game nights. Gail leaves behind cousins and many friends who will miss her greatly.The funeral and burial are private.ACelebration of Lifewill beheldata later date in Ocean Grove when the quarantine is lifted.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ocean Grove Camp Association.
