Obituary

Ethel R. Boyd, 81, Neptune, NJ, passed away suddenly in the early hours of July 5, 2025 with her daughter, Donna, by her side.   Ethel was born in Churchdown, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom in 1944 to Elsie and Arthur Ferguson. She excelled in her academics and was accepted to Pates School for Girls. She completed her GCE level exams and was then recruited by the British government to work intelligence at GCHQ in Cheltenham. Ethel met her husband, Command Master Chief William Boyd, while he was stationed in England. They married in 1966 and relocated to the United States. They moved between Ft. Meade, Maryland and NJ three times during Bill's thirty year Navy career. Ethel studied Cosmotology and worked as a hair dresser in Holmdel for many years. After her husband's passing in 1998, she worked as an administrative assistant until her retirement. Ethel is survived by her only daughter, Donna Boyd, Neptune City; her sister, Margaret Sanderson (Scott) of Nr. Tewkesbury, England and their daughters, Lydia Sanderson and Jo-anna Challens also of England; a host of many nieces and nephews from Bill's family scattered across the US; nieces Deborah Keelen and Susan Lee of Middletown, NJ; her dearest friends that are really family as well, Gus, Sandy, Shannon and Stacey Kahermanes and their extended family members. Ethel also leaves behind her beloved cats and Donna's furry crew which brought her so much happiness! They already miss her so much.  A viewing will be held on Sunday July 20 from 3:00 - 5:00 at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 1200 Tenth Avenue, Neptune.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to a local animal rescue or organization that donates service dogs to our American Veterans. Thank you to all of Ethel's wonderful doctors who took such good care of this beautiful woman over the years.
