Obituary

Eileen C. McNelis -she told everyone the C stood for Charming.96 Years Old -Born December 24, 1925, died August 13, 2022.

Born on Christmas Eve in 1925, her father went out and bought her a Christmas tree. The tree man said Mac you just bought a tree this morning, and he replied, I didn't have a daughter this morning and this needs to be special.Eileen's journey started in Bayonne, where she spent the majority of her life. She later moved to Avon and spent the rest of her life enjoying her view of the ocean.Eileen is survived by her sisters, Ann Brandon and Mary Boyle. She was the favorite Aunt of 48 nieces and nephews, not including the many others who called her Aunt.Eileen was predeceased by her parents, John and Ann McNelis, her brother Francis McNelis, and her sister Bernadette Harz.Eileen was a champion for women's professional respect, which could not have been easy. She was the first female supervisor for the major oil company, ESSO, and won the office pool during her first week on the job. While the bulk of her life was based on common sense, Eileen continued to play the lottery (8585) and never missed an opportunity to go to Atlantic City.Eileen was the fun Aunt, always taking her nieces and nephews on unforgettable trips, spending time telling amazing stories of the Good Old Days with Teresa O'Donnell and her numerous friends. She enjoyed international travel, volunteering, and engaging in current events. Eileen was a voracious reader, reading the newspaper daily cover to cover.Eileen's faith was extremely important to her. She was a devote member of St Henry's Parish in Bayonne, and Ascension Church in Bradley Beach.Eileen was a kind, loving, generous woman. She was always happy to see a visitor and freely giving a compliment to all, whether deserved or not.Eileen was small in stature but her heart was unmatched. She will be sorely missed! The viewing will be held from 9:00am-11:00am, followed by a Mass at 11:00am at Ascension Church, of the Parish of St. Teresa of Calcutta, in Bradley Beach. In lieu of flowers, as Eileen volunteered for Meals on Wheels, please consider a donation to the Bradley Beach Food Pantry. 605 Fourth Ave Bradley Beach, NJ 07720, or online at Bradleyfoodpantry.org/donate or The St. Francis Ministry at Ascension Church, 501 Brinley Ave Bradley Beach, NJ 07720
