Dorothy Everitt (nee Burkart), 91, died peacefully at home in Ocean Grove, NJ on August 11, 2021 with her two daughters by her side. Dorothy grew up in Hawthorne, NJ a daughter of Isabel Scowcroft Burkart and Edward Burkart, brother to Ted, (Edward) who predeceased her. A graduate of Hawthorne High School, she attended the secretarial school then known as Katharine Gibbs. She worked for more than 40 years for Home Life Insurance Company (now part of Phoenix Companies). She is predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Edwin, with whom she lived in Clifton. She is survived by daughters Marjorie Everitt and Pamela Iozia, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was fortunate to enjoy the generosity of many friends and family. She was also fortunate to have the kindness of loving caregivers Karen Miller and Diane Petersen. She was a great reader and lover of the arts – ballet, opera, music. Those wishing to honor her memory should make a gift in her memory to their favorite arts organization. A celebration of her life will occur at some time in the future.
