Edith J. Deane, 95, of Neptune, died Sunday January 18 at the Atrium at Navesink Harbor, Red Bank. Mrs. Deane was a telephone operator for NJ Bell, Asbury Park, before retiring. Also, she worked at the Wilson Penn School for the deaf and she served as the President of General Roofing previously of Neptune. She was a member of the Taylor Memorial Baptist Church, now the Avon Baptist Church where she was a Deaconess, Past President of the Ladies Aid Society and served on the flower committee. Edith worked with the Riverview Christian Academy, Shark River Hills and then Central Jersey Christian School when the school relocated to Asbury Park. She was an avid gardner. Born in Trafford, PA, she lived there until moving to Neptune in 1946. She was predeceased by her husband Robert N. Deane in 1991. Surviving are her sons, George N. Deane and his wife Jacqueline of Neptune, David C. Deane of Neptune and Edward J. Deane and his wife Marie of Marlboro, her daughters, Donna C. Deane of Tinton Falls and Lisa A. Ferrigno and her husband Robert of Tinton Falls, her brother, Gerald Golick of Trafford, PA, 10 grandchildren, Jessica Miehle, Janel Coughlin, Juliet Wendler, Candace Acker, Andrew Deane, Kimberly Murray, Brianna Newton, Christina Pequignot, Deanna Rapolla and Emma Ferrigno and 8 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 10:00 AM with funeral services beginning at 12:00 Noon at the Community Bible Church, 424 Lakewood Road, Shark River Hills, Neptune, with interment following at Monmouth Memorial Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Frances Platt Hines Appolloni

Frances Platt Hines Appolloni of Ocean Grove, died at home on January 5, 2015 after a brief struggle with cancer. Fran was born in Newmarket, NJ on March 14, 1927 to Emily Piddington and Frank Liming Platt. She graduated from Neptune High School in 1945. She attended Ann May School of Nursing and graduated in the last class of the Cadet Nursing Corp in 1948. She continued her training in neonatal nursing at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She returned to Fitkin Hospital (now Jersey Shore University Medical Center) to head the nursery. In 1951 she married Harrison Richard Hines, MD and moved to San Francisco. They had four children and upon Harrison’s untimely death in 1963 she moved back to New Jersey to be near family, later marrying Francis V Appolloni. She was a devoted Registered Nurse for over 60 years, including school nursing in the Neptune school system, and geriatric nursing, finally retiring at the age of 82. She volunteered for Caring Friends and the Ocean Grove Citizens Patrol. She inaugurated and was race director for The Run For The Arts for 15 years, contributing a substantial fund for her beloved Jersey Shore Arts Center. Fran was predeceased by her husbands, her sister Florence Holl, also of Ocean Grove and her brother Thomas Platt. Fran is survived by her children: Richard G Hines, MD (Daune T Lord) of Blue Hill, ME; Andrea Hines of Fort Collins, CO; Gregory E Hines (Gail) of Oak Bluffs, MA and Jeffrey R Hines (Patti Stirk) of York, PA, her stepchildren, Nancy Stober (Doug) of Mendham, NJ; Judy Velez (Marc) of Princeton, NJ and David Appolloni (Donna) Hellertown, PA, her grandchildren, Harrison (Sarah), Mallory, Nathaniel, Amelia, Emily, Katharine and her step grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Patrick, Dana, JR, Amanda, Kaitlin, Zach and Faith. She had 7 great grandchildren and one more on the way. Also surviving are her special friends, Borna and Amy Albus and their sons Dominik and Noah of Bloomington, MN. A memorial celebration of Fran’s life will be held this Saturday, January 10th at 2pm on the 3rd floor of the Jersey Shore Arts Center, Ocean Grove. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to Jersey Shore Arts Center, PO Box 55, Ocean Grove, NJ 07756, jerseyshoreartscenter.org.
