Janet B. ter Linden, 84, of Asbury Park died Thursday February 11, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Wayne. Mrs. ter Linden worked as a secretary for Bel Labs in Murray Hill where she met her future husband, Bill. She was an active volunteer at the St. Paul’s Food Pantry, the Jersey Shore Performing Arts Center and at the Asbury Towers where she last resided. Born in Summit, she lived in Berkeley Heights, Chatham Boro, Whiting and Ocean Grove before moving to Asbury Park. She was predeceased by her husband William and by her son Peter. Surviving are her two sons, Billy,and Richard and his wife Regina, her daughter June A White, her grandchildren, Amber Marrero and her husband Wilfrido, John White, Jr., and Caitlin M. Clark and her great grand son Tristan I. Marrero. John Joseph Nolan , III
John Joseph Nolan III, 80 of Toms River, died on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ. He was a member of Greenbriar Woodlands community. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he lived in Burlington, Neptune and Toms River. He was a Roman Catholic and worked in the steel business throughout his life. He loved his family, his work and a good laugh. In his free time he could be found at Monmouth race track or enjoying a show at the Paper Mill Play House. John was a caring, witty and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He was predeceased by his wife Stella in 2008. Surviving are his eight children, Eileen Nolan and her husband George Cummings, John J. Nolan IV and his fiancé Xuelian (Sammi) Wei, Lisa Nolan and her husband Dan Griffin, Cynthia and her husband Timothy Cannuli, Kelly and her husband William Kaufman, Michael Nolan and his wife Carol, Victoria and her husband Michael Prodeline and Ryan Nolan and his wife Joni. His grandchildren are Brianna, Amanda and Ian Cummings, Grace, Anne and Joseph Griffin, Stephanie and Alyssa Cannuli, Michaila, Riley and Aynsley Kaufman, Michael, Madison and Matthew Nolan, Michael and Andrew Prodeline and Sean, Brendon, Allison and Cian. Relatives and friends are invited to come on Monday, February 8th from 5-8 pm at Holy Innocent Church, 3455 West Bangs Avenue, Neptune City, NJ 07753. Evelyn Palmer
Evelyn E. Palmer, 94, of Ocean Grove, died Wednesday February 3 at Francis Asbury Manor, Ocean Grove. Evelyn was born in London, England where she survived the Blitz. She came to the United States in 1945, living in Fanwood, NJ, Ridgley, MD, Watchung, NJ and Manahawkin before moving to Ocean Grove in 1998. Mrs. Palmer was a former member of the Long Beach Island Woman’s Club, the Manahawkin United Methodist Church, the Ballard United Methodist Church and previously sang with the Island Singers. She was predeceased by her first husband Charles Turner in 1984 and by her second husband Clyde Palmer in 1995 Surviving are her daughters, Janet Lynne Charlton of Hackettstown, Gail Lee Koberlein and her husband John of Martinsville, VA and Charlene Joy Christopher and her husband George of Stewartsville, her sister, Kath Turnbull of London, England, 4 Grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. A funeral service will be held on Saturday February 13 at 11:00 AM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, with interment following at the Masonic Cemetery, Barnegat. Cynthia S. Jeffrey, 106, passed away on Sunday January 31 at Neptune Gardens Care Center, Neptune. Born in Orange, shge lived most of her life at the Jersey Shore. She also lived in Lantana, Florida for many years. She was predeceased by her Lloyd B. Jeffrey, her loving husband of 46 years. Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Haydu and her husband Sandy of Manasquan and Sally Sodemann of Nazareth, PA, her son, Rob Hunter of Palmetto, FL her niece Nancy Smith of Madison, nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Neptune Gardens provided her with special care and kindness. At her request, the Ocean Grove Memorial Home is in charge of private arrangements. |

Carmela “Millie” Armenti nee Ricci, 97 of Stirling, died Monday February 1, at home. Carmela was born May 11, 1918 in Newark to Pietro and Rosa Ricci. She worked for Charms Candy, Fiber Plastics and also worked as a seamstress. Millie was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother. She will always be remembered for being gracious, loving, patient and kind. Carmela was a true angel. Her last words of advice were to be happy. She was predeceased by her husband George Armenti, Sr. in 1984, by her brother Rocco Ricci and by her parents. Surviving is her sister Mary Dragotta of Toms River, two sisters in-law, Martha Armenti and Lucille Armenti, her son George Armenti Jr., and his wife Phyllis, her daughters, Sharon Armenti Cerchiaro, Rosemary Armenti, five grandchildren George Armenti III, Carolyn Armenti Saragusa and her husband Thomas, Colette Armenti, Joseph Thomas Cerchiaro III and his wife Courtney and Nicolas Armenti Cerchiaro, seven great grandchildren Clea Jane, Daniel Joseph, Calla Ann, Chiana Rose, Gabriella, Thomas, Jr., Jessica and Brandi and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Rev. Eugene Wheeler Foote, 86, of Ocean Grove, died Saturday December 26, 2015 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. Eugene was born in Staten Island, NY on March 21, 1929 to Frederick and Beatrice Foote. He Studied at Wagner College and then graduated from Seminary School. Rev. Foote was a Methodist minister for many years, and he enjoyed the spreading the word of God to all that passed through his life. He married the former Marilyn Sauer in October 1975. Gene Loved going to the organ recitals at the great auditorium in Ocean Grove and participated in the bible studies with his wife at Manor by the Sea. He was predeceased by his wife Marilyn in August 2015. Surviving are his daughter, Yvette Foote and his grandsons Christopher and Brandon Pepin. Joan Watson Krumm, 87, of Ocean Grove, died on December 2, 2015, after a long illness. Joan, beloved wife of the late Lloyd T. Krumm, Jr, was born in Worcester, MA on February 9, 1928. She attended High School in both Charlotte, NC and Washington, DC. Joan graduated from Colby Sawyer Jr College, in New London, NH and University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She enjoyed skiing, swimming, gardening, tennis and all animals, particularly her cats and dogs. Joan took special joy in music, especially the piano, and in travel. Joan worked as a secretary for insurance companies in Atlanta, GA and New York City. While living in Franklin Lakes, NJ, Joan volunteered with the Valley Hospital Auxiliary. In Grantham, NH, Joan volunteered with the Public Library and served as secretary for several clubs. A resident of Francis Asbury Manor in Ocean Grove, NJ, since 2006, Joan served on the Resident Council and managed the Gift Shop for several years. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Madelaine Howe Watson and Clifton Edwin Watson of Charlotte, NC, her sister, Marilyn Watson Massey and her Grandson, Ryan Jann Krumm. She is survived by her sons, Randolph Lloyd Krumm (Patricia) of Cincinnati and Barry Watson Krumm (Susan) of Ocean Grove, her Granddaughter, Katherine Jann Krumm, and her nieces, Pamela Massey O’Quinn and Caroline Forest Massey McLean. Stanley J. Baiga, 72, of Howell, passed away peacefully,surrounded by his family, on November the 30th, 2015. Mr. Baiga was employed by the Freehold Township Police Department before retiring in1997. He was a past member of PioneerHose in Brick Township and East Freehold Fire Department. He was also a member of The Secret Serviceand an advisor for The Freehold Township Police Explorers. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy Hill Baiga DeVries and Stanley Baiga, and his step father Pete DeVries. Surviving are his wife, Paula Kenworthy Baiga of Howell, his son Thomas Baiga and his wife Stephanie of Escondido, Ca, his daughterTamra Saragusa and husband Frank of Brick and he was a devoted and loving grandfather to Anthony Saragusa. Peter W. Stagg, beloved father, coach, friend, and longtime resident of the Jersey Shore, passed away on Sunday, November 22. He was born in East Rutherford, NJ, and moved to the Jersey Shore as a child. Much of his time was spent surfing on the Ocean Grove beach, where he was a founding member of the Ocean Grove Surfing Club. He was a decorated high school athlete in track, basketball and baseball at Neptune High School. After graduating in 1963, Peter worked in New York City as a trader and supervisor on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. In his spare time, he was a recreational pilot and also a volunteer firefighter for Eagle Hook & Ladder in Ocean Grove, where he is a life member. He served as both President and Captain and was awarded Fireman of the Year in 1992. In 1977, he began a 25-year tenure with Monmouth County Government, where he served as a purchasing agent and became Highway Supervisor of County Roads, a position he held for 13 years before retiring in 2003. He was recognized by the NJ State Senate and Assembly in 1996 for his civic and political involvement in the community. Peter had extensive political experience ranging from Barry Goldwater’s security detail to campaign involvement for George H. W. Bush. He was active every year in dozens of state and local campaigns. For more than 30 years, he devoted time to coaching young athletes and also to community improvement through various civic engagements. He coached many All-Star teams including Little League Baseball and Basketball. He formed the Neptune High School Swim Team in 1977, served as Chairman of the Neptune Twp. Planning Board and was a member of the Neptune Board of Education. He was also a founding member of the Wall High School Hockey Club and Team. Peter was a well known presence at many Jersey Shore high school sporting events, cheering on students from the sidelines. He will be remembered for his humor, pride in his family and community, and his love of sports. He is survived by his 2 children: Erik Stagg, Cincinnati, OH, 30, and Kim Stagg, New York, NY, 27. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, November 27th at Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. Luke James Mitchell, 30, of Ocean Grove, NJ, passed away November 17, 2015 surrounded by his immediate family. He waged a courageous and relentless battle with valvular heart disease. He was predeceased by his father, David I. Mitchell in 2005. Luke is survived by his mother, Roberta Reaser Mitchell, of Ocean Grove; brother Matthew and wife, Rachel, of Drexel Hill, PA; brother Mark and wife, Alison, of Little Silver, NJ; maternal grandmother, Helen Reaser, of Ocean Grove, NJ; and five nieces and nephews: Meredith, Ethan, Elijah, Ella, and Samuel. A graduate of the Marine Academy of Science and Technology, Rowan University, and the Keiser University College of Golf, Luke was completing his internship as an Assistant Golf Professional at Hanover Country Club in New Hampshire and was well on his way to becoming a PGA Teaching Professional. From birth, Luke never let his congenital heart defect slow him down. He was a superior athlete, immersing himself fully in baseball, bowling, surfing, skateboarding, tennis, golf and football. He spent nearly every waking second watching, researching, practicing, and participating in these sports. Luke will be remembered by many for creating elaborate contraptions from scrap and duct tape and blue string to help bring these sporting endeavors to life. One of Luke’s two true loves was surfing. He was always in search of that perfect long right ride. He never missed a moment to share and enjoy surfing experiences with family, friends, and strangers. Luke had a decade-long relationship with the Eastern Lines Surf Shop, where he was a star salesperson, a member of their competitive surf team, and an extremely dedicated surf instructor (family and friends will remember his knack for tenacious teaching). Luke was able to visit and surf in many noted surfing destinations including Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and San Diego. Luke also had a deep love of golf which evolved from a close relationship with his father, the late David Mitchell. He was unbelievably driven, once having created his own practice golf course in open spaces around Ocean Grove and a putting green in his man-cave. Luke made a difficult decision to pursue his dream of being a golf pro, and we now know that he is at peace having made this right choice. Luke was very loved and had an amazingly positive effect on his family and friends. The world will miss his creative fun, witty attitude, infectious smile and laughter, Luke shared this joy with everyone. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 80 Embury Ave Ocean Grove. A Funeral Service will begin at 7:00 PM. Elizabeth Bertha Collins, of Tinton Falls, died Thursday November 5, 2015 at home. Elizabeth Bertha was born to the late Rev. William Henry Hebron, the founder of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Viola Hebron on February 7, 1925 in Atlantic Highlands. Elizabeth was educated and graduated from the Red Bank school system. She completed her studies and was certified as a machinist/presser. Elizabeth met and later married Granville Aubrey Collins on August 25, 1952 in Baltimore, MD. To this union, three children were born. Fayebien, Edlyn and Granville, Jr. She worked as a domestic engineer, then later worked at Ft. Monmouth until her illness in 1982. She was predeceased by her husband, Granville A. Collins, Sr., her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Hebron, three sisters, Catherine Hebron-Williams, Estelle Hebron-Smith and Ruth Hebrob-Singletary, four brothers, Walter, William, Van and Charles Hebron and her grand daughter Joselyn M. Cobbs. She leaves to mourn, her two daughters, Fayebien Collins-Langford of Middletown, Edlyn Collins of Tinton Falls, her son, Granville A. Collins, Jr., of Belmont, NY, two sisters, Marie Hebron-Goins and Helen Hebron, both of Long Branch, her adopted sister, Evelyn Reed of Florida, three grandchildren, Melanie Campos and her husband, Ruben, Sgt. Curtis Langford of Ft. Hood, TX, Latrice’ Langford, Springfield, MA, her adopted grand daughter, Mrs. Gloria Wright of Plantation, FL and three great grandchildren, Daeja, Ckellen and Ethan. The viewing will be Saturday at 10:00 AM until funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 364 Cherry Street, Tinton Falls. Mary Alice Johnson
Mary A. Johnson, 65, of Long Branch, earned her angel wings on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. Mary was predeceased by her husband, William E. Johnson Sr.; her parents, Oscar and Ella Tillman and her brother, John Tillman. She is survived by her 5 children, Tanya Johnson, Tatia Johnson, William E. Johnson Jr., Sonya Johnson, and Nurjahan Johnson. Also surviving is her sister, Carrie Tillman and her brothers, Nathaniel Tillman, James Tillman and Ndegwa Mwanza. She has 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “Gran” or “Nanny”. Mary was a beloved mother and grandmother. She was genuinely caring and loved being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary was adored and loved by all who knew her. Her courage and strength was inspiring. Mary will be missed but never forgotten. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at the McLaughlin Pentecostal Faith Church, 148 CP Williams Place, Long Branch. The service will be led by Pastor Caroline Bennett. |

James T. Shanahan
James T. Shanahan, 87, of Ocean Grove, died Saturday October 3, 2015 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove, NJ. Mr. Shanahan retired from The Shanahan Machine Shop Tool and Dye in Jersey City, a company founded by his father in 1929. Born In Jersey City, NJ, he became a resident of Saddle Brook , NJ in 1954. He there served on the Board of Education, Zoning Board, and Planning Board. He served on the Bergen County Construction Board of Appeals. Additionally, he taught at Bergen Technical Night School. After becoming a full-time resident in Ocean Grove fifteen years ago, he volunteered at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, in the library department. He also served with the Ocean Grove Citizens Patrol and on the Neptune Shade Tree Environmental Commission. James was an avid reader, walker, and golf enthusiast. He was best known for being a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. Jim, aka Pop Pop, will be greatly missed. He will be treasured in the hearts of his loved ones. James was predeceased by his parents, James and Katherine Shanahan and his brother Robert Shanahan. Surviving are his wife, Dolores Underhill Shanahan, his sons, James T. Shanahan, Jr., of Ocean Grove and Richard Michael Shanahan of Saddle Brook, his daughters, Dori D. Shanahan, of Passaic and Maureen P. Gillen of Rochelle Park, and his grandchildren, Patrick, Alicia and Nolan Shanahan, Connor Prelich, and Breanna and Michael Gillen. Marilyn Foote
Marilyn Foote, 83, of Ocean Grove, passed away on Saturday August 22 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. She born September 20, 1931 in Jersey City to Godfrey and Gertrude Sauer. Mrs. Foote worked for the general board of Global Ministries in New York City until retiring. She was very active in the church, attending most United Woman’s Conferences. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove and active in their woman’s circle. Marilyn loved going to the great auditorium to listen to the organ concerts and other programs there. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Richard Sauer and her sister Shirley Sauer. Surviving is her husband Rev. Eugene Foote, whom she met while they were volunteer counselors at The Aldersgate United Methodist Camp, marrying on October 18,1975,her daughter Yvette Foote and two grandsons Christopher Pepin and Brandon Pepin. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday September 1 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.
