Edward Ogden
Edward G. Ogden, 80, of Ocean Grove died Thursday, August 25 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. Mr. Ogden was a Naval Officer, with 25 years of service. He enlisted in the Navy in 1949, graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD in 1955 and graduated from MIT in 1961 with degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and SNAME. Mr. Ogden was a professional engineer in New York, New Jersey and Texas. Born in Morristown, NJ he lived in Basking Ridge and all over the world during his Naval service before moving to Ocean Grove over 30 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Joan Welte Ogden, his children, Elizabeth and Edward, Jr., and his grandchildren, Aiko Walson and Zachary Ogden. Inurnment services will be Tuesday August 30 at the United States Naval Academy Cemetery, Annapolis, MD. |
Leonardo Tangarife
Leonardo Tangarife Abad, 31, of Ocean Grove, died Thursday August 25 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. He was a cook supervisor at Manor by the Sea. Born on June 12, 1980 in Colombia, he came to the United States in 1999. Surviving are his wife, Nora, his parents, Gustavo DeJesus Tangarife Valencia and Luz Maria Abad and two sisters, Marisol Tangarife Abad and Claudia Tangarife Abad. Services will be in Colombia. |
Lois M. Greve
Lois M. Greve, 79, of Ocean Grove, died Monday, August 22 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Ms. Greve was a teacher in Nyack, NY, at the Central Jersey Christian School, Asbury Park and then Tender Care Nursery in Ocean Grove. She was a 1954 graduate of Hunter College, Bronx, NY. Born on August 15, 1932 in Great Barrington, MA, she was raised in the Bronx and summered in Great Barrington. She was a resident of Ocean Grove for over 40 years and an active member of Faith Baptist Church, Ocean Township. Lois lived with Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and she died ready to meet Him in heaven. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Emeline Greve, and by her brother, William Greve. Surviving are her sister, Edith Lory, her niece Janet Wallace and her husband, Bill, and and many beloved friends. A private burial was held at the Glendola Cemetery, Wall. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 3:30 PM in the chapel at Francis Asbury Manor, 70 Stockton Avenue, Ocean Grove. Muriel D. Morrell
Muriel D. Morrell, 90, of Ocean Grove, died Saturday August 13 at home. Mrs. Morrell was a homemaker, an artist and a professional seamstress who designed clothing. She was a devout catholic of Irish decent. Born in New York City, she lived in Colonia then Iselin before moving to Ocean Grove in 2007. She was predeceased by her husband, George in 1993. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Robin Henry and her husband John, of Ocean Grove, her sons George Robert Morrell of Avenel, and Frank James Morrell and his wife Mary of Colonia, a brother, Lawrence and his wife Pauline of Astoria, NY, 8 grandchildren, Stacy Roth, Brian, Jason, Shaun, Joshua, Ryan, Daniel and Christopher Morrell and 3 great grand children, Carly and Maddy Roth and Jacob Morrell. Harriet Campbell
Harriet Campbell, 96, of Ocean Grove, died Monday, August 1, 2011. She was born and raised in Hunterdon County and graduated from Flemington High School. She married William (Bill) Haver and moved to Somerville, NJ where she raised herfamily, worked as a legal secretary, and made active contributions to her community and her church, where she served as the first female elder. When her husband died in 1969, she continued to work as a legal secretary, traveled, and made many contributions including serving a number of months in two different church missions. Later she married Paul Campbell. They moved to Ocean Grove where they had a happy and productive life together. Paul died in 2004. In recent years she has lived in Francis Asbury Manor enjoying the company of many good friends and family members. She is survived by her sons Bill Haver and Tom Haver; her grandchildren Cheryl, Douglas, Katherine, Bradford, William, Christopher, Kaitlin, and Alexandra; her great grandchildren Rebecca, Christy, Pierce andLuca; her nieces Anne, Gayle, Eda, and Rae; all of their spouses and manyfriends. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 27 in thechapel at Francis Asbury Manor in Ocean Grove. Ruth E. Hausman Miller, 102, of Ocean Grove, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Manor-by-the-Sea, Ocean Grove. Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove, the Ocean Chapter No. 214, Order of the Eastern Star and the Ocean Grove Womens Club. She was active with the Senior Citizens group of the Salvation Army and formerly with the Home League. Born in Catasaqua, PA, she grew up in Allentown, PA then lived in Kearny for twenty years and Stirling, NJ for fourteen years before coming here over 40 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard H. Miller in 1977 and by her daughter and son in law, Lorraine M. and Albert Leach. Surviving is her grandson, Douglas Leach and several nieces and nephews. Lorene Mary Sagotsky, nee Backlund
Lorene Mary Sagotsky, nee Backlund, of New York City, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York. Mrs Sagotsky had a long career in the fashion industry. She was head of design at Character, Inc. designing ladies sleepwear under the Character label and also for major retailers such as Lord & Taylor, Victorias Secret, and Sears. She was recognized by Sears as one of their outstanding suppliers in the world. She was a 1968 graduate of Freehold High School where she won a state competition in fashion design. She graduated from Drexel University in 1972. Mrs. Sagotsky enjoyed art, fine dining, traveling, ballet, and beach vacations. Born November 18, 1949 in Lahaina, HI, her family soon relocated in Eatontown. She then settled in Colts Neck. She married Gerald Sagotsky of New York City on June 24, 1984 and their son Matthew was born January 2, 1988.
She was predeceased by her sister Janise in 2004. In addition to her loving husband and son, she is survived by her brother, Jonathan of Menlo Park, CA and her sister Leslie of Colts Neck. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, May 31 from 10:00 AM with funeral service beginning at 11 AM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. Doris J. Feane
Doris J. Feane, 89, of Eatontown, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Care One at King James, Atlantic Highlands. She had worked as a supervisor of general supply for Ft. Monmouth until retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, volunteered as a special police officer in Eatontown and was a great animal lover. Mrs. Feane was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a Navy Wave and repairing airplane engines during World War II. Born in Asbury Park, she was a lifelong resident of the shore area.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Feane in 1970 and by her brother, Robert B. Jensen in 2004. Surviving are her niece, Sandra E. Jensen and her life partner Jeannette D. Sarik of Bridgewater, NJ, her nephew Glenn R. Jensen and his wife Vicki of Netcong, NJ and her sister-in-law, Silva Jensen of Sarasota, FL. Friends may call on Thursday, May 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 with a funeral service with Pastor Ken Akselsen at 7:30 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, followed by an Eastern Star service at 8:00. Marjorie E. McKean, 89, of Ocean Grove, formerly of Toms River, died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. She was a clerk in the Ocean County Medical Examiners office in Toms River before retiring. Born in New York, she lived in Toms River for many years before moving to Ocean Grove. Surviving are her brother, Kerry Taylor of Point Peasant. A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 129 Chestnut Street at Old Freehold Road, Toms River on Wednesday, May 25 at 10:00 AM. Marguerite Grimmer Edwards
Marguerite Grimmer Edwards, 86, of Ocean Grove, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2011 in Wilton CT. She was a resident of Ocean Grove for the past 35 years. Born and raised in Plainfield NJ she was the youngest daughter of parents Charles and Marguerite Grimmer and a sister of Edith Grimmer Brunner, all deceased. The family summered in Ocean Grove which was a central part of her entire life.
Marguerite graduated from Averett College and St. Barnabas School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She had many diverse interests and talents. She married Harrison Edwards in 1955. The family soon moved to Princeton NJ where they raised three children. Marguerite was an active homemaker and mother. She enjoyed travel, gardening, many crafts and antiques. She was a lover of all animals who never let a stray go uncared for. She also was a member of the Present Day Club of Princeton. A determined fighter and lover of life she was a 40 year breast cancer survivor. After retirement Marguerite and Harrison retired to their beloved Ocean Grove as year round residents. She loved the beach and the many activities found in Ocean Grove. With the family grown Marguerite renewed her nursing career and worked part time for many years at the Salvation Army Retirement Home in Asbury Park. She traveled extensively, often with her sister, all over the world.
She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years Harrison Edwards in 2003. Surviving are her two sons, Richard H. and his wife, Susanne of Keller, TX, Charles and his wife Rosemarie of Belford, NJ, her daughter Linda Koch and her husband, David H. of Wilton, CT, five grandchildren, Brandon and Tyler Edwards, and Harrison, Peter and Marguerite Koch and three step granddaughters, Katelyn, Megan and Jessica Whalen. The family invites friends to visit at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, on Friday May 13, from 4 to 6 PM. Interment will be private. Edna Hall Townsend Foley, 95, of Ocean Grove, died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, after a short illness. Mrs. Foley had worked for the federal government before retiring. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, St., Pauls United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove, the Girl Scout Council of Bergen County and a 75 year member of the Ocean Grove Auditorium Choir. Born in Paterson, she lived in Wood-Ridge, and Ridgewood, NJ, Hobe Sound, Fla., Ocean Grove and most recently at the Medi Center in Neptune City.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Jack Townsend, in 1965; and her second husband, Frank Foley, in 2010. Surviving are her daughters, Nancy Townsend of Ocean Grove, and Janet Iannelli of Ridgewood and Ocean Grove; four grandchildren, Janet Comer Gleason of Middleton, Mass., Edward Comer of Newton, N.H., Douglas Iannelli of Atlanta, Ga., and Darleen Iannelli of Cedar Park, TX; and three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison Gleason and Victoria Hutchings. Alma Mabel Robertshaw Murray, 91, of Ocean Grove, died Monday, May 2, 2011, at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. She was the personal secretary to the president of the Monroe Calculator Company, Orange until retiring. Born in Orange, she lived in Glen Ridge before moving to Ocean Grove.
She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Murray; and her parents, Arnold and Mabel Robertshaw. Surviving are her cousins, Carolyn Robertshaw of Red Bank, and Bruce Robertshaw of West Orange. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5 at Rosedale Cemetery, Orange, with interment following. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Presbyterian Church of Belmar. Patricia O. “Babe” Lyons, of Ocean Grove, died Friday, April 29, 2011, at home. Mrs. Lyons trained at Bethesda Naval Hospital, then worked at Columbus Hospital as a scrub nurse. Born in Newark, she lived in Kearny before moving to Ocean Grove in 1975. She was predeceased by her husband, James J. Lyons; her parents, Metro and Katherine Cemota; sisters, Helen Hompesch, Nancy Giuffrida, Anna Davis, Mary Suhoke, and Pearl Cemota; brothers, John, Nick, Peter, Metro, and Anthony Cemota; and her great-nephews, David Woupes and George Suhoke. She is survived by her niece, Sheryl Hompesch; and many other relatives and friends, including her aide, Kaittlaine Antoine. Patricia Farley Hoffman
, of Ocean Grove, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at home. She was born in New York City on December 9, 1933 to James J. and Catherine Patterson Farley. She attended catholic schools and had fond memories of St. Jean Baptiste High School in New York City. Patricia entered the Bloomingdales Executive Training Program in the late 1950s and remained an executive in the fashion and retail industries until the late 1980s when she semi retired to explore more travel and academics. She attended Montclair State College and lived in Upper Montclair for 22 years before moving to Ocean Grove 12 years ago.
She was predeceased by her parents and by her brother, James Harold Farley who died in 1986. Surviving is her husband, Carl J. Hoffman whom she married in 1975 at the St. Bede Chapel in Williamsburg, VA and her cousin Gerald Fay of Florida. Jean Murgatroyd Stiles
Jean Murgatroyd Stiles, died peacefully on Wednesday April 13, 2011 at her home in Ocean Grove. A long time Ocean Grover, Jean began spending her summers in Ocean Grove, as her parents and grandparents had before her. She eventually settled in her familys home full-time after her parents deaths in 1980. Jean was also professionally active in Ocean Grove as the manager of New Jersey National Bank and a member of the Ocean Grove Businessmens Association until her retirement in 1988. After her retirement, Jean enjoyed traveling the world with her beloved husband, Gilbert, who predeceased her in 2005. When not traveling, she enjoyed decorating and maintaining her historic home and garden and spending time with her cherished grandchildren. Jean also enjoyed many volunteer activities, such as the St. Pauls Food Bank and the Jersey Shore Womens Club where she was the treasurer for many years. She is survived by her children; Gilbert, Dianne and Cindy; her granddaughters; Danielle, Rebeccah and Erika; her sister, Barbara, and many nieces, nephews and friends who remember Gilbert and Jean fondly and miss them dearly. Esther B. Grieco, 91, of OCEAN GROVE, died Friday April 1, 2011, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Ocean Grove. She had worked as a registered nurse for Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune for more than twenty five years until retiring in 1965. Mrs. Grieco also served as the school nurse for the Oakhurst Country Day School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Oakhurst, its United Methodist Women and Ruth Circle. She was formerly the treasurer of the auxiliary to the Methodist Homes of New Jersey. She was a member of the Senior Friendship Club of Ocean Township. She was a 1941 graduate of the Ann May School of Nursing at Fitkin Hospital, Neptune. Born in Gloversville, NY, she had lived in Oakhurst most of her life, then in Asbury Park and Interlaken before moving to Ocean Grove in 1991. She was predeceased by her first husband Arthur H. Johnson in 1949 and by her second husband, Hugh S. Grieco in 1999. Surviving are her son, A. Bruce Johnson of Asbury Park. A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Monmouth Road, Oakhurst at a later date.
