Kenneth D. Walcott
Kenneth D. Walcott, 83, of Ocean Grove, died Wednesday December 28 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Mr. Walcott was a Social
Worker for The Catholic Home Bureau of New York City, retiring in 1997. He received his Bachelors degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA. Mr. Walcott was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a paratrooper. Born in Upper Manhattan, he lived in New York City before moving to Ocean Grove 15 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Leacock-Walcott, his children, grand children and great grandchildren and his brother, William Walcott of Stonybrook, Long Island. Relatives and friends may call on Monday January 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM atthe Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. Douglas von Donop

Douglas vonDonop, 80, of Ocean Grove, died Sunday, December 25, 2011. Douglas was a long time resident of Wall Township and the beloved son of the late Walter and Eleanor Donop. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, he graduated from Brooklyn Tech H.S. in 1949. He went to Syracuse University for Electrical Engineering and Business and was loyal to the Orangemen. He was a proud US Navy Veteran during the Korean War on board the USS Missouri and received a National Defense Service Medal. He completed his MBA at the University of Hawaii where he met his wife Marcia at the church they both attended. They returned to New York and eventually to the NJ shore to raise their three children. Doug’s fondest memories were sailing his boat and enjoying the company of his family and friends. He had a passion for civic life and encouraged everyone to be involved with local and national issues. He loved a good debate. He is survived by his brothers Walter and Donald. He was a loving father to his children Deborah (her husband Eric), Kristin, and Carl (his wife Tracy); a cherished grandfather of Tyler, Jason, Cory and Logan; and a loving uncle to Philip, Laura Jean, Scott, and Kim.
Graveside services will be held at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn on January 7th at 10 am. |

James A. Garley, 87, of Ocean Grove, died Monday December 5 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Mr. Garley worked in Inventory Control at the Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne, before retiring in 1977. He was a member of the VFW in Jersey City, the Ocean Grove Fishing Club and was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach. Mr. Garley was a disabled American Veteran, receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart while serving in the United Sates Army during World War II. He loved fishing, the beach, Atlantic City and the New York Yankees. He was born in Jersey City, the youngest son of Irish immigrants. He lived in Jersey City until moving to Ocean Grove in 1977. He was predeceased by his wife, Regina Garley in 1990. Surviving are his son, James T. Garley of Belmar, his daughters, Erin R. Fliedner and her husband Edwin of Neptune, and Colleen Daly of Port Monmouth, four grandchildren, Grace Garley, Matthew, Timothy, and Jennifer Daly and two great grand children, Alexandra and Nyla Daly. Harry M. Joughin, 90, of Ocean Grove, died Friday December 2 at home. Hewas a floorlayer carpenter for Carpenters Resilient Flooring, Union, NJ before retiring in 1987. Mr. Joughin was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was one of only 5 survivors of the Battle of Bill Bill Hill. He was a member of the Ocean #89 Masonic Lodge, the Corson Commandery, the Goodwin Chapter and the Knight York Cross of Honor. He was a former chief and a 60 year member of the Eagle Hook and Ladder Company of the Ocean Grove Fire Department. He was predeceased by his wife Gladys DeCosta Joughin in 1992, by his son, Harry M. Joughin, Jr. in 1987 and by his grand daughter Sherry Lynn Crouse in 1977. Surviving are his son, Maurice Joughin and his wife Alice of Brick Township, his daughters, Anna Mils and her husband Keith of Wall Township and Lillian Joughin of New Hampshire, 7 grandchildren and 13 great grand children and one great great grandchild. Gladys J. Aanensen
Gladys Jennie Aanensen (nee Hoffman) of Ocean Grove passed away on Friday, November 25 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center after a long battle with chronic illness. She was born 88 years ago in East Rutherford and grew up in Pompton Plains. She graduated from Butler High School and Presbyterian School of Nursing. Her long career in nursing included 20 years with Dr. Ingeborg S. Hoffman, the North Arlington pediatrician, where she was lovingly known as “Mrs. A” to hundreds of families. .In 1943 she met and married the love of her life, Alwyn. They settled in Kearny, had one precious son, Ted, and in 1951 opened a home remodeling business. Gladys served as Treasurer while Al did the carpentry, and she used her management skills to organize the company, which flourishes to this day as Aanensen’s. The arc of her life can be traced by the churches she cherished, beginning with the First Baptist Church of Arlington, where she served as Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Board of Christian Education, member of the Board of Trustees and Women’s Fellowship, Advisor of the Girls’ Guild and Baptist Youth Fellowship. She was Publicity Chair for the “Forward in Faith” campaign that built the present church building. When they retired to Swartswood Lake near Newton, she and Al ran an Adult Fellowship group at Lafayette Federated Church. After moving to Ocean Grove in 2001, they joined St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and Gladys joined the Ann Forrester Circle and Adult Fellowship group. Gladys was predeceased by her parents, George and Maude (Lewis) Hoffman and brother George Hoffman of Staten Island. She leaves behind her loving husband of 67 years; beloved son Ted and wife Gayle; three grandchildren: Matthew and wife Rosalie of Colts Neck, Greta and spouse Sandrine Merhy of Boston, and Timothy of Ocean Grove, her sister Maude Weise of Bennington, VT, and many loving nieces and nephews. Her great-grandchild, Madeleine, daughter of Matt and Rose, brought much joy to her later years. John J. Glenn, Sr.
John J. Glenn Sr., 88, of Ocean Grove, died Monday November 21 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was Fireman with the New York City Fire Department for 34 years at Hook and Ladder 8, the Chiefs Office and Marine 2 fire boat before retiring. Mr. Glenn was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy aboard the USS Oakland and USS Fergus from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Mr. Glenn was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, an usher, a greeter and a member of the Jerry Lynch Club. He spent many a day at the Ocean Grove fishing pier where he enjoyed fishing and helping with the Tuesday Morning Kids Fishing Club. He enjoyed summer days swimming at the Ocean Township Community Pool. Born in the Bronx, he lived in Manhattan for 39 years before retiring to Ocean Grove in 1985. He was predeceased by brother Robert Glenn. Surviving are his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy, his daughters, Maureen Bohl and Patricia Cowan and her husband, James, her son, John Glenn Jr. and his wife Debbie, his sister, Sr. Alma Robert Glenn, six grandchildren, Jennifer Cowan Ellefsen, James Cowan, Allison Cowan, John Glenn III, Chelsea Glenn and Christopher Bohl and 2 great grandchildren Ryann and Robert Ellefsen. Stella M. Moken, 93, of Ocean Grove, died Sunday October 30, 2011 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. Mrs. Moken was a homemaker. She enjoyed collecting antiques, summer band concerts andshe loved the New York Giants. Born in Newark, she lived in Irvington then Avon, moving to Belmar in 1955 and then Ocean Grove in 1979. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 Stephen P. Moken in 1993 and his ashes will be interred with her. Surviving are her son, Stephen M. Moken of Ocean Grove, her daughters, MJ Moken of Ocean Grove and Christine M. Higham of Manasquan, her brother Hank Przybylowski of Manasquan and 4 grand children, Daniel and Michael Moken and Robert and Mary Higham. Mary Evelyn Force, 88, of Ocean Grove, died Monday November 1 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. Mrs. Force was a clerk for Jersey Shore Medical Center for 15 years, before retiring in 1987. She was a 1942 graduate of Montclair High School, a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove and the Neptune Senior Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles S. Force, Jr., in 2001 and by her parents, Richard and Mary Blair Wright. Surviving are her sons Charles R. Force and his wife Linda of Spring Lake Heights and Jeff A. Lydia Nikolai Wolniansky, 84, of Jackson, died Monday, October 17, 2011, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She worked as a special needs driver before retiring. Mrs. Wolniansky was a Past President of Rova Farms, Jackson, and active member of the Russian Brotherhood Order and a member of the County Committee. She was predeceased by her husband Wasily Wolniansky in 1980 and by her daughter Natasha Wolniansky in 2003. Surviving are her son, Peter W. Wolniansky of Ocean Grove and a grand son, Aleksandr Garry. Private family services will be held at St. Vladimir’s Russian Orthodox Church, Jackson. Lorraine M. Parr, 92, of Neptune, died Tuesday October 4, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Mrs Parr attended Avon elementary school and graduated from Neptune high school. She was well known for her dancing. Mrs. Parr worked as a secretary before retiring. She was predeceased by her son Douglas Parr in 1983, by her brother Henry Vanderburgh in 2001 and by her parents, Brownie and Kathleen Lawrence Vanderburgh. Surviving are several cousins. Jeanette Ferguson Dube, née Knight, 98, of Tinton Falls, formerly of Asbury Park and Spring Lake Heights died suddenly Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at her residence. Born in Red Bank, she lived in Atlantic Highlands until her marriage, since then had lived in Asbury Park many years before moving to Spring Lake Heights and in 2004 to The Pines in Tinton Falls. She was a graduate of Eastern Baptist Seminary, Philadelphia, PA and worked for twenty one years as a librarian at the Asbury Park Free Public Library until her retirement in 1974.She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Asbury Park where she had played the piano and organ and sang in its choir for more than 60 years. She was predeceased in 1971 by her first husband, John W. B. Ferguson (who was the superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for the Asbury Park Board of Education for many years) and then by her second husband, Arthur J. Dube in 1984. Surviving are a son, R. Bruce Ferguson and his wife, Linda, of Neptune, a daughter, Heather F. Walton and her husband, Bill, of Orient, Maine and Wayside, NJ, six grandchildren, John D. Walton and Rachel of Neptune and Michael Kowalcyk and Amy of Belmar, Jill W. Plummer and Buck of Brookton, ME, Cindy W. Vellinga and Chris of Brick, Michelle Burstein of Brick and Mikel Kowalcyk of Everette, WA. five great grandchildren, Ben and Sam Plummer, Emma and Cameron Kowalcyk and Tori Walton, her sister, Edith Knight Sampson also of Tinton Falls and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Florence M. Watt, 86, of Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls, died Friday September 23, at Renaissance Gardens, Tinton Falls. She was a telephone operator and administrative assistant for the Bell Telephone Company for 35 years, before retiring in 1979. She was predeceased by her husband, George Watt in 1994 and by her sister Dorothy Gondek in 2008. Surviving are her nieces, Nancy Gondek of Arlington, MA and Joanne Daw and her husband Mark of Siera Madre, CA. There are no calling hours and private services will be held at a later date. |
Floyd Henry “Pete” Bradley, Jr.

Floyd H. “Pete” Bradley, Jr., 87, of Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls, died Sunday September 18 at home. Mr. Bradley graduated from Merchantville High School in 1940 at the age of 16. The following year he graduated from the George School in Bucks County, PA. He completed a year and a half at Duke University before enlisting in the Air Force. On April 10, 1944 before going overseas, Mr. Bradley and his college sweetheart, Carol Lake, were married secretly in Casper, Wyoming. Mr. Bradley served in World War II as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Force. As the navigator on a B-24 Liberator in the 8th Air Force, he completed 35 combat missions over Germany. Mr. Bradley’s B-24 crew also flew supplies to General George S. Patton’s troops in France and participated in night missions with the Royal Air Force. After returning from his tour of duty, Pete and Carol had a church wedding in Newark on March 10, 1945. After World War II ended, Mr. Bradley completed his education at Rutgers University, graduating in 1948. Two days after graduation, he went to work for the Prudential Insurance Company in their Newark Home office. He served in many capacities at Prudential before retiring in 1982 as Advertising Manager. Before moving to Sea Brook Village in 2001, Mr. Bradley lived in many New Jersey locations, Merchantville, Newark, Livingston, Short Hills, Ocean Grove and Little Silver. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Carol Bradley in 2006 and by a son Steven in 1953. Surviving are his son, Floyd, H. Bradley, III of Santa Barbara, CA, a daughter, Barbara Lynette Bradley of Tinton Falls, two brothers, William J.L. Bradley, III of Sparta and Walter D. Bradley of Scottsdale, AZ and four grandchildren, Victoria Kent of Tinton Falls, and Camilla, William and Melissa Bradley of London, England. Stanley C. Mader, 98, of Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls, formerly of Interlaken, died Monday, September 12, 2011 at home. He was a division chief at the Ft. Monmouth Research Laboratory for 25 years until retiring. Mr. Mader was a graduate of the University of Illinois and served four years as a Captain in the United States Signal Corps. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Carson Mader and by his son, Dr. Chris Mader. James S. Buchanan, 81, of Ocean Grove, died Saturday September 3 at home. He was a supervisor for Anheuser Busch in Newark before retiring 25 years ago. Mr. Buchanan was a United States Navy Veteran serving aboard the USS Salem. He was a member of the American Legion Post 346, Neptune, the Ocean Grove Fishing Club and a long time member of the Ocean Grove Citizens Patrol. Surviving are his wife Ella Orr Buchanan, whom he married on September 4,1954, his son, James L. Buchanan of Freehold Township, his daughter, Gail A. Henry Franklin Cadmus, 90, of Manchester, died Thursday August 25 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. He was a driver for Homestead Oil Company in Hillside before retiring. Prior to that, he worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road. Mr. Cadmus was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He was a member of the Ocean Grove Auditorium Ushers Association and a member of the Westerners Choir of Leisure Village West. Born in Newark, he lived in Hillside before moving to Manchester 11 years ago. He was a summer resident in the tent colony in Ocean Grove for many years. Surviving are his wife, Bertha Bacatselos Cadmus, his daughter, Joyce A Kiem of Ocean Township, his son, Rev. Ronald W. Cadmus of Manchester, his twin brother, Charles E. Cadmus of Haskell, NJ, his sister, Helen Kaczkowski of West Keansburg, NJ, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grand children.
